Revlon Makeover with the Age Defying Makeup

April 29th, 2010

Revlon Costmetics (www.revlon.com), London Drugs (www.londondrugs.ca) , Maryanne Lechleiter, founder of  www.stimulimag.ca and Deborah Reynolds of About Face Image Consulting Inc (www.aboutfaceimage.com) came together this afternoon to feature a Revlon Makeover event.  Revlon Makeup Artist, Jacquie stopped into the new London Drugs at Morgan Crossing in South Surrey and worked her magic on Maryanne Lechleiter and Deborah Reynolds.  Two fabulous makeovers, soon to be viewed on Utube.  We videotaped and took photos of the makeovers, but you’ll have to be patient - they’ll be up on the websites soon.  www.stimulimag.ca will be doing a great review of the event, along with Revlon.

I was the lucky model who tried Revlon’s Age Defying Moisturizing Concealer and the Age Defying Makeup.  The Revlon Colorburst Lipstick is brand new and will hit the shelves in British Columbia in June.  It’s creamy and feels great on the lips.  It’s a must try lipstick for the summer.  Another big hit is the Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer.

We covered some great tips for an aging complexion.  Why, YES, of course we’re talking about my skin!  Heck, I’m 50 this year and proud of it!  But let’s face it, there are some specific skin issues as we age, and Jacquie and I chat about that during my makeover.  For one thing, hormonal changes can cause discoloration and pigmentation changes in the skin, and we’re going to share some tips on how to cover them and create a flawless complexion.  Stay tuned and we’ll bring you more soon.  Now that I’m all made up, I”m spending a special evening with my husband.

Back in the Game

June 3rd, 2009

Well I’ve been enjoying the sunshine and hope you have been too.  I stepped away from blogging but am back in the game.  I had been focusing on some necessary house and business projects which are now successfully completed.  I cleaned off the back padio and reconfigured the padio furniture to enjoy the flowers and sunshine.  Last evening, I put the chicken on to cook and poured myself that rare glass of wine - a lovely Riesling and read Dr. Wayne Dyer’s book on the Tao.  Truly inspiring.  And then I remembered I needed to respond to a blog comment.

The question was “How does one know how to respond to every situation?”  In essence, we don’t always know.  Many times we wing it or fly by the seat of our pants, so to speak.  I have found that asking as many questions as possible and taking a genuine interest in others and learning about their interests, helps to steer me in the right direction.  When conversing with others, you could comment by saying, “that’s interesting - tell me more”.

I have learned to love people and have chosen to be interested in people.  For the most part, people like to talk about themselves.  Some are shy, for sure, but many are flattered you would ask about them.  Another great question is, “why did  you choose to go into this particular industry or start this business?” I’m amazed that many people don’t ask the question, but many more don’t freely share the reasons for moving their life in a particular direction.  The answers will amaze you - and that sparks a whole new conversation.  For the most part, people is business, true entrepreneurs, are passionate about what they do.  It’s such a deeply rooted passion and simply being interested in others and allowing them to share it can be inspiring.

Business is all about relationships. Nothing more or less.  The products and services offered by a business are about filling a need or desire.  That’s the common ground.  Wealthy people have a different perspective, a different way of thinking.  So by asking others what they think about an issue or topic, will give you a hint as to their unique perspective.

There is no doubt that when you engage in conversation with a business person, there is the risk they may try to ’sell’ you something.  Take the risk and deflect by simply saying something like, “so tell me a little more about what you do so I can have a better understanding of your business and industry.  Who knows, I might be able to send you a referral or hook you up with a possible strategic alliance.”

So you may be asking yourself, what’s a referral and what’s a strategic alliance.  If you’ve ever given a recommendation for a product or restaurant - that’s a referral.  If you have ever suggested someone contact a particular person or company, because they could collaborate on a project together, that’s a strategic alliance.

Continue to seek education - in all forms.  If you feel like a stupid five year old - good!  That means you are out of your comfort zone - and being uncomfortable is the only way you are going to learn and grow. Learn to appreciate and recognize that uncomfortable feeling.  Because the moment you start to retreat and head for safety and comfort, you stop growing and learning and that isn’t a good place to be.

Entrepreneurs, business people  and wealthy people have all learned to take risks, continually.  They are creators and taking risks is the name of the game.  And only by taking risks do you develop the gift of discernment.  If you are baking a cake, you are a creator.  If you plant a seed and grow a garden, you are a creator.  If you organize games for kids, you are a creator.  If you get dressed in the morning, you are a creator.

Think of creating as an experiment.  You experiment with a conversation and see what reaction you get.  You experiment with a new wardrobe and see what reaction you get.  You experiment with ingredients for a new recipe and see what reaction you get.  If the cake flops and tastes terrific, try a different recipe.  In business, we call this marketing - test and measure.  And if you don’t like the reaction or response you get, laugh it off, and try something else.

Don’t take life too seriously.  By laughing at yourself and laughing with others, you become memorable and people will love your company.  If you don’t know something or don’t have the knowledge in a particular area, say so, and ask for help.  For the most part, people love to help others.

Come clean and say, “I don’t know anything about this industry- I’m green.  I want to learn so where would you suggest I start?”  You will be surprised at the response.  If you do get someone who blows you off, then you know they aren’t worthy getting to know anyways.  The others who step up and offer help, will be your best supporters.

Good etiquette is about making people feel comfortable.  Look for and stick close to those people who make you feel comfortable when you’ve spilled your guts.

Even with my years of experience and knowledge, there are many many things I don’t know.  I just admit it and move forward from there.  Soon or later, you will realize everyone is just like you.  We all feel confident in the areas we are familiar with - the rest of the time, we’re pretty much acting as if.  That’s not a bad thing - just keep your chin up and be willing to face the music head on.  Now that makes good StyleSENSE!

A Great Hair Day!

April 29th, 2009

Check out Oprah’s Best Life Series: Oprah’s Weight Gain Confession.  I love her hair in that video - beautiful soft full curls cascading down and around her face and on her shoulders.  While she is talking about weight gain being about what you are hungry for in your life and having balance, I can’t help noticing her hair in that video.  Fabulous!

Oprah - you need to change your current hairstyle.  Long, straight and parted in the middle doesn’t work for you - it’s ages you, doesn’t enhance your features, and doesn’t create enough balance for your body.  You’re beautiful, and bringing back those gorgeous curls will show off your fabulous face, engaging smile and voluptuous figure to the best to create a winning image!

Do You Think You Can Win?

April 29th, 2009

Creating a winning image is key to being exceptional and to lead the field.  The top five contestants on American Idol did a phenomenal job.  Each one is unique. And how each portrayed their version of the Rat Pack favorites displays their creativity and what makes them great.  Simon Cowell asked Allison Iraheta an important question - do you think you can win?  Taking and keeping the lead requires exceptional confidence.  For someone who dares to enter such a competition at the age of sixteen, she has great confidence.   However it’s all relative, as being able to answer that question with confidence and assurance is another matter.  You have to believe it with all your heart and soul.  Establishing expert status requires a knowing that is deep inside of you - no hesitation.  To be a winner you have to believe it and know it, no doubts.

Here is what I believe and know.  All five are stars and will have extraordinary singing careers.  Only one can win the title of American Idol for 2009.  So what’s holding you back?  Do you believe you are a winner - a leader in your field?  Maybe it’s time to boost your confidence and belief in yourself.

Michelle Obama Defines the Sleeveless Style

April 27th, 2009

Time to get your arms in shape.  With Michelle Obama now a style icon, the sleeveless is on the rise.  Showing your underarms is not always appropriate, and it’s advisable to wear a jacket or sweater for more conservative environments.  A tasteful dress to show off your femininity is a perfect addition to your wardrobe.  If your shoulders tend to slope or need more definition, select a dress with a pronounced and structure collar to create the illusion of more fullness on top.  To enhance your curves, select a dress with shape with a cinched in waist or belted.

To achieve the beautiful sculpted arms, invest in some 2, 5, 10, and 12 pounds dumb bells to work on those biceps and triceps.  Muscle definition is beautiful and sexy, and if you are carrying around heavy baggage or kids, work on your core to ensure when lifting you protect your lower abdomen and back.

This is the perfect time to work on defining your arms, shoulders, back, and core to be ready for more revealing gowns and summer dresses.  And don’t forget the quads - get those legs into shape for shorts.  If you are wondering about the perfect length for a skirt, it’s at the narrowest part of the knee and no more than two inches above the knee.

You Deserve a Makeover

April 27th, 2009

Why is it so many women put others first and themselves last?  Many would say it’s because women are naturally nurturing.  Perhaps.  I believe it’s a matter of low self esteem.  I believe a strong confident woman puts herself first and then after ensuring she is taking good care of herself, she knows she has the energy to give to others.  Having and developing a giving nature is a good and noble thing, but it’s essential that we take good care of our health, our energy, keeping our body and mind strong and ensuring we love ourselves.  Keeping our spirit strong and alive is key to a happy life.  If we give too much to others and too little to ourselves we begin to feel used and resentful.  We are quick to tears when things don’t go our way.  We feel used and unappreciated.

It’s time to stand up for yourself and it’s important that we develop a sense of deservability.  I deserve to eat good food, drink clean water, exercise, get plenty of rest, nurture my soul and spirit.  It’s okay to say ‘no’ if too many demands are placed on our time.  I deserve to go shopping and buy myself nice things.  Can I do without the beautiful things around me?  Of course, a weekend away hiking, is evidence that I can survive on very little and still enjoy the beauty of nature and be happy.  I also enjoy beautiful clothes, beautiful shoes, a nice handbag, nice brushes to apply my makeup, nice jewellery.  I am just as happy is a pair of old jeans and sweat shirt, but I know that the jeans and sweat shirt don’t work as effectively in the environments  that require I show up as the Image Consultant or Speaker.

I appreciate all the things that have come into my life and, as long as I’m alive, I have the responsibility for being the steward of these things and taking good care of them.  From the perspective of the Law of Attraction, beautful things don’t come and remain in our lives unless we feel we deserve them, are grateful for them and appreciative of their existence.  When we express a sense of joy and appreciation when thinking about these beautiful things, when seeing them and using them in our lives, they will show up.

Surrounding myself with beautiful things is a choice.  Being able to enjoy a great cup of italian pressed coffee and to read a book in a comfortable chair while the sun is beating in my livingroom window, is truly one of my great joys.  I am surrounded by beautiful things including fresh flowers in my home - the potted lily and chrysanthemum create a vibrant environment.  It gives me joy, therefore I make it a priority and make the time for it.  Yesterday morning I rose early just to have an hour reading.  Could I have used a bit more sleep?  Sure, but I had sufficient rest and the anticipation of the lounging in the chair, enjoying my livingroom and settling into a good book drew me out of my warm bed.

Take some time to follow Michelle Obama - she has a fabulous wardrobe.  And yes, it’s because she is the first lady and has to set an example.  She isn’t dressing like some of the previous first ladies - with too traditional and conservative wardrobe pieces.  She is expressing her style sense that works for her life, which includes being a mom.  You are also setting an example for those around you.  If you have children like Michelle, you are demonstrating how a woman should act and feel, and how you should be handling yourself around children and in public.

So what do you deserve?  A great new wardrobe, a well organized closet, a new haircut and style - perhaps a new color or lipstick to enhance your eye color?  Are those jeans just not quite as flattering?  In my nineteen years in business, nothing boosts the self esteem of a woman more than a makeover.  I have had clients cry with the sheer joy and amazement of how beautiful they feel.  The tears they had shed because things weren’t going well in their life, were soon replaced with tears of deservability.  Many weren’t getting enough compliments from their significant others, and to get a flood of compliments from strangers simply made their day and left them with a lasting smile on their face.  They felt better about themselves and more confident - one top of the world!  They quickly learned that by doing nice things for themselves, they were in control of their own happiness and well being.

Wouldn’t you love that for yourself? Don’t wait for others to say you deserve a makeover.  You DO deserve it - so say “I deserve it” and book a makeover.  It will be one of the best experiences of your  life!  Telling yourself you deserve it is the first step.  The second step is treating yourself well and taking action, because that simply makes good StyleSENSE.

Roberto Luongo Takes the Shots

April 23rd, 2009

Are you capable of taking the shots other people fire your way?  The Vancouver Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues on April 21, 2009.  Luongo stopped 47 out of 49 shots.  Despite his dehydration and cramping he and the team came out on top.  To have the EDGE - the confidence and assurance you are going to win - you have to be on top of your game, and you have to be ready.  At any second someone could fire a shot and if you are not prepared, you will lose.  You have to push through the pain and discomfort and keep your eye on the prize.  We know the speed of the team is based on the speed of the leader. Everyone has to work together because you can’t do it alone.  The more effectively the team works together to achieve a common goal, the better the chance of winning.  Luongo can say “I’ve Got The EDGE”.

I’ve Got The EDGE

April 22nd, 2009

You know how some people just seem to have it.  You know - IT!  They’ve got that little bit extra - that extra confidence, they are self assured and know how to respond to every situation.  They’re cool and calm.  They are well groomed from the inside out.  They’ve got the EDGE.  Have you wondered what IT is and how to get it?
